一、can与could用法表示能力

can表示现在的能力；could表示过去的能力

She can read. 她会识字。

I can play basketball. 我会打篮球。

Andy can speak English fluently. 安迪会流利地说英语。

When I was young I could jump high. 当我年轻的时候我能够跳的高。

She couldn’t read when she was still a child. 当她还是小孩的时候，她不识字。

“be able to”表示能够做某事，不仅可代替can和could表示现在或过去的能力， 还可用于表示其他各种时态的能力，比如将来的能力等。

I am able to (=can) type. 我会打字。

She was able to (=could) use a computer. 她会用电脑。

She will be able to speak in a few months. 几个月之后，她就会说话了。

用be able to或could表示过去的能力时，须注意：若表示过去已完成某次具体的动作，要用be able to，不用could

Although he was hurt, he was able to run fast. 虽然他受伤了，但是他还能跑的快。（他已经跑了）

二、can与could用法表示条件允许，就可以做到的事情，可发生的事情

can表示现在或将来可发生的事；could表示过去可发生的事

The cake can be big or small. 蛋糕可大可小。

Years ago we could see the river from here. 很多年前，我们在这里就可以看到河。
